My website only has one city, but with many Areas.
My problem is that I want to use the Cities category for my areas. It is more flexible and displays the area in property listings, which is great.
I don’t need the Areas category that is part of the theme.
What I need to do though is rename Cities to Areas. I can see this being tricky. What is the best and safest way to do it successfully please?
Thank you for the comment. From other clients experience you can import a list of cities or a list of areas with any plugin that supports import xml and import for custom taxonomies.
But the attachment of an area to city can be done only by editing area and attach to city.
I found these 2:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/jc-importer/ – for xml and cvs and allows to import for custom taxonomy only
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-ultimate-csv-importer/ – for cvs and allows to import for custom taxonomy only.

The easiest way is to rename Cities to Areas in POEDIT (as I showed you with Advanced Search). The en_US.po is in languages folder, if you want to edit the labels yourself.
To install POEDIT on your computer, you can use this link for the details – http://wpestatetheme.org/translation-module/
To remove the Areas – I suppose you want from Front End Submission form as well.
I can help with this at the same time with removing countries. Let me know if you need this.
