Hello, I wanted to purchase your WP Residence theme but was wondering if it works with other IDX plugins aside from the DSIDX? I prefer the ihomefinder idx plugin and just want to make sure it will work with your theme.

    Thanks

    Hi Michelle,

    Thank you for the question.

I haven’t tested ihomefidner, but from experience any good IDX plugin will work once activated. But you have to be aware of the following limitations.

Compared to dsIDXpress, the only thing that will not work with any other IDX plugin is the IDX pins on the map. See our demo page http://wpresidence.net/dsidxpress-plugin-how-it-works-in-wp-residence/

We had to make a workaround for dsIDXpress to show some of the listings in a widget on the map. That is only for dsIDXpress.

The rest of the limitations are the same:
    – the map, pins and icons in header work only for properties added in wp-admin
    – advanced search works only for properties added in wp-admin
    – all property related features in WPESTATE or WP RESIDENCE work just for properties added in wp-admin

    – FOR MLS properties you will have to use the plugin’s widgets, shortcodes and properties.
    – The design that comes with the plugin can stay as it is or you can customize it in CSS (it’s up to you).

-> Yes, this is a real limitation and that is how it is because no MLS/IDX plugin gives access to their database. That’s why they charge you so much money monthly.

    SOLUTIONS:

From our experience, the only way to get access to the properties database from MLS/IDX is to be able to connect the theme to the database, import the properties in the theme. Then you can use the theme features as the properties are in wp-admin.

To import properties, you need an .xml or .cvs with properties from your MLS (if they do provide that) – and you can try WP ALL IMPORT plugin because some clients managed to use that successfully.

Or, you can also import through an API, if the IDX/MLS has API and gives clients API access to import from a third party website/theme like ours. In this case you’ll need custom development to integrate the API. And you need for sure an agreement with API provider (from our experience this means a monthly fee )
